Steve Bowhay started Yard Doctor Landscape in 1984 after coming to Alaska in the early 1980’s as a commercial fisherman. He is a well established Alaskan fisherman, even taking some jobs in the always dangerous Berring Sea. Originally located in downtown Juneau, Steve moved to his current location on James Blvd. in the Mendenhall Valley, where soon after he met Cindy. When he and Cindy married in 1988, the family ran nursery business flourished and the couple soon built a greenhouse to expand their growing capacity.
Together, Steve and Cindy have built the Yard Doctor and Glacier Gardens into thriving local businesses that offer employment for over 60 Juneau residents every season.
Local gardeners are always confident that the purchases they make at the nursery are of healthy, hardy stock that will thrive in Southeast Alaska’s wet environment. They also appreciate all the gracious assistance offered by Steve, Cindy, and their dedicated employees.
Many local gardeners also make sure that Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure is one of their first stops when showcasing Juneau’s outdoor environment. What a wonderful way to show off the beauty of Southeast Alaska to your visiting friends and family!
Steve was diagnosed with throat cancer in October of 2007. After surgery and radiation treatment, he is back to work creating beauty in everything he does.
Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure is a participant in the Tourism Best Management Practices in Juneau, Alaska, which helps Juneau’s tourism industry and local residents work collaboratively to address and solve issues related to tourism activities.
