Rhododendron Bloom

Our favorite time in the gardens has begun as the rhododendron bloom is starting to pop with a colorful array of blossoms. Rhododendrons are temperate weather tolerant and value our mild climate here in Juneau. You will see them throughout town in residential yards and gardens, but the real display is found alongside our Flower Towers at the Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure. We have thousands upon thousands of blossoms splashing color throughout the gardens and the rhodies just add to the botanical excitement. These are a photographers dream come true and will be on display through June. Schedule your next visit or stop by any time to view this one-of-a-kind garden atmosphere only found in Juneau, Alaska.

June 3, 2014 - An early arrival of the Rhododendron blossoms means even longer enjoyment of our favorite time in the Gardens. Rhodys upon the thousands in an array of colorful blossoms are stunning in our temperate gardens, something you truly have to see to believe!

Open 2014!

Join Glacier Gardens on a journey through mystical Flower Tower gardens and into the Southeast Alaskan wilderness. Witness the inspiring beauty created from a storm damaged stream in one of Juneau’s most unique outdoor environments. In no other place will you find non-native landscaped gardens mesh so soundly with the natural habitat of the Tongass National Forest where you can view the stark contrast that our manicured gardens set against the natural forest backdrop.

April 27, 2014 - Steve is putting some of the finishing touches on his Flower Tower gardens. Each one will take him between 2-4 hours and will hold up to 150 individual plants.

May 2, 2014 - Flower Towers basking in the spring sun! The finished product once Steve has worked his magic.

A Vision Becomes a View

Steve and Cindy Bowhay created the Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure through hard work, God’s grace, and with love and respect for the natural world. While some choose to create art by using canvas and paints, the Bowhay’s prefer to decoratively landscape a mountainside as an extension of their creative abilities. Steve has a favorite quote that is found within every book, How to Plant a Tree Upside-Down, that reads:

“A view is what you see with your eyes open, a vision you can see with your eyes closed.” – Steve Bowhay
